Trompe L'Oeil, Murals and Faux by Art Effects

Make it Fossil, Rock Step 4

close-up of your finished piece

After appling your ...leaves, moss, shells, etc in the joint compound
you need to wait till the mud is ALMOST completly dry before you remove your
fossil material. You don't want any give in the compound while you are pulling
your leaves, etc out. There is no way to give a exact time.
After removing your material allow the compound to dry overnight and then
lightly sand, prime and paint with either a final coat of paint or a basecoat
for a faux or glaze/stain finish. (If need be you can wait over night or longer
to remove your leaves, it will just be a little more difficult.)
